First Meeting, Big Plans
Welcome to our first newsletter!
We've officially had our first team meeting and are getting started on two exciting projects: the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge and Njord – The Autonomous Ship Challenge.
Getting the Team Together
We kicked things off with some icebreakers, giving everyone a chance to get to know each other and share what they are most excited about for our next journey.
We then went through what each competition involves, our main goals, and what we'll be working towards over the coming months. With people from different engineering backgrounds, there's plenty to bring to the table, and we're excited to see what we can achieve together.
What Are We Working On?
Monaco Energy Boat Challenge – Energy Class
For Monaco, we'll be designing a zero-emission energy storage and propulsion system to fit onto a standardised boat platform.
We'll then put our design to the test on the water, competing in races that challenge the boat's speed, endurance, and manoeuvrability.
Njord – The Autonomous Ship Challenge
For Njord, we'll be developing an Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) that can navigate independently using computer vision, path planning, and dynamic positioning.
The competition in Trondheim, Norway, will challenge us to tackle different scenarios, including collision avoidance and autonomous docking.
What's Next?
We're only just getting started, and there's plenty of work ahead. For now, we're looking forward to getting stuck into the projects, learning from each other, and turning our ideas into something real.
Keep an eye out for more updates as things get underway!
